Maria Carolina Sanchez de Bustamante, an artist in textile and ceramic art of international stature herself, she has exhibited her work throughout North and South America, Japan and Europe in juried and curated exhibitions.
Carolina brings a rich heritage of traditional South American ceramics and textile skills, which she combines with a more contemporary, sculptural sensibility. Her imagery moves from representational themes dealing with the environment and politics to non objectives subjects interwoven with a wealth of colour and style.
Originally from Argentina, she has lived in Vernon, B.C. since 1989. Carolina has been working in architectural ceramics in her Ashpa Naira Studio on the west side of Okanagan Lake since 1994, creating original and innovative design in clay for the living environment.
Carolina has owned and operated commercial galleries in the Okanagan Valley since 2004. Co-owner of Fugitive Gallery (2004-2006, in Vernon, BC), Ashpa Naira Gallery (2006-till present, in Vernon, BC) and ARTE funktional (2013-till present in Kelowna, BC), where represents emerging and established artists in paintings, sculptures, architectural art and functional art.

Sanchez de Bustamante has had one-person exhibitions at the Vernon Art Gallery in Vernon, BC and the Kelowna Art Gallery in Kelowna, BC. Her work has been included in the exhibitions: “International Sculpture Symposium” at the Vernon Public Art Gallery in Vernon, BC – 5th Latinoamerican Ceramic Art Biennal, Santa Cruz, Bolivia – 4th International Textile Competition in Kyoto, Japan – 3rd Latinoamerican Art Biennal in Florianapolis, Brasil – Canadian Craft Museum in Vancouver, BC – National Art Exhibition in Textiles and Ceramics in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
