Created in 2011 for Headbones Gallery in Vernon BC. It was a collaboration with artist Julie Oakes. Julie was working on an art project creating porcelain and glass wings at the time, so came natural to use the same theme to create the artistic border tiles for this bathroom.
Among the 3D wings, in this corner was created a tile mural background in a wing shape to represent the colours of Swam Lake, which can be seen from the residence.
The position of the individual wings opposite to each other, creates a space for an abstract bird body, giving the illusion of a bird in flight.
Here can be seen the detail of the wing shape to bend over window return. This can be done because every tile is customize starting from malleable clay. The black background tiles and pencil border are also hand made.
On the left side of the window, it can be seen another wing bending over the window return. The irregular top border line is allowing the wings to be free, giving the abstract body with the neck and head of the bird, the sense of taking flight.
